TYLER FOX.
"The first time I ever paddled out to Mavericks I was 18; that day later became known as 100ft wednesday. It was a cold and foggy morning and the waves were 15 to 20 feet. I was on a borrowed 10ft single fin, which was a beast of a board that I could barely fit it under my arm. I caught a couple early but each set was continually getting 5ft bigger. One set will forever be ingrained in my memory....We were all sitting out there, a little on edge due to the drastic increasing swell, when we noticed the horizon going black. We all scratched for our lives as a 45ft wall of water stood up in front of us. I remember paddling up the face of this monster hoping to god I make it over the thing. It felt as though I was paddling straight up for days, I barely squeaked over the top with my stomach in my throat. After that I chose to sit in the channel and watched as these moving mountains came thundering in. It was the most amazing display of raw power I have ever seen. For the next 4 or 5 days I was high on adrenaline and for the following 4 or 5 days I was depressed. It was definitely one of most amazing experiences of my life and will surely be a great story to tell when I¹m old and gray." -T FOX |
